I think we can all agree that chocolate chip cookies are delicious, but, they are a dime a dozen. If you want the great taste of a chocolate chip cookie with a little extra oomph you should try substituting the chocolate chips out for chunks of Sweet’s Dark Chocolate Orange Sticks. If orange isn’t your flavor, you can substitute Sweet Candy Co.’s chocolate cherry sticks, chocolate blueberry sticks, or chocolate raspberry sticks. It is an easy way to make your cookies stand out and you can change up the flavors so it’s always something new!
This has been a trick passed down from generation to generation of the Sweet family since we started making Orange Sticks 75 years ago! In fact, these cookies are Tony Sweet, 4th generation Sweet and Chairman of Sweet Candy’s, favorite treat! Tony asked that we share this recipe to make sure that everyone can enjoy this family tradition with us.
If your family has a recipe they always use you can just substitute the chocolate chips for one row of Dark Chocolate Orange Sticks cut into ¼” cubes. If not, we have borrowed a recipe from our friends at Betty Crocker and have shared it below!
¾ Cup granulated sugar
¾ Cup packed brown sugar
1 Cup butter or margarine, softened
1 Teaspoon vanilla
1 Egg
2 ¼ Cups Flour
1 Teaspoon baking soda
½ Teaspoon salt
18 Dark Chocolate Orange Stick chopped into ¼” cubes (add more to taste)
1) Heat oven to 375ºF.
2) Mix sugars, butter, vanilla and egg in large bowl. Stir in flour, baking soda and salt (dough will be stiff). Stir Orange Sticks.
3) Drop dough by rounded tablespoonfuls about 2 inches apart onto ungreased cookie sheet.
4) Bake 8 to 10 minutes or until light brown (centers will be soft). Cool slightly; remove from cookie sheet. Cool on wire rack.
5) Enjoy!
