Here's everything you need, plus a video tutorial on how to make these soft and fluffy sugar cookies:

    Ingredients:

    • 5 cups of flour (Note: the less flour that you use, the softer these beauties will be)
    • 2 cups of sugar
    • 1 cup of sour cream
    • 1 cup of unsalted butter, softened to room temperature
    • 4 eggs
    • 1 tsp of vanilla (Feel free to use almond extract rather than vanilla if desired)
    • 1 tsp baking soda
    • 3 tsp baking powder
    • 1 tsp salt

    Now let's get baking:

    1. Preheat your oven to 350°F.
    2. In a large bowl combine your sugar, sour cream, softened unsalted butter, and your eggs. Mix on medium-low speed for 1-2 minutes until most of the lumps are gone. (Tip: For easier mixing, cut your butter into single cubes.)
    3. Add your dry ingredients to the bowl and mix until the dough starts to thicken up.
    4. We chose to add our vanilla at this time, but feel free to add it in with step 2 if you prefer. Continue mixing. (Note: Your mixture will become very thick and sticky, that's okay, it's supposed to be that way, just lower the speed if you are using a hand-held mixer).
    5. Cover and let chill in the fridge for about 20 minutes.
    6. Sprinkle some flour onto a smooth, flat surface (parchment paper worked really well for us) where you will roll out your dough. If you are using a rolling pin, rub some flour on it to tearing the dough as you roll. Your dough should be about 1/4 inch thick.
    7. Cut your cookies to the desired size and set on a cookie sheet.
    8. Bake for 8-10 minutes (we chose to bake for 9 minutes and they turned out perfect!).

*Once you remove them from the oven let them rest on a cooling rack, or on a heat-safe surface. This is the perfect time to start on your frosting!

Here's what to use for this super simple sweet taffy frosting:

    • 7-10 pieces of your favorite Sweet's Taffy
    • 2 Tbs. Heavy cream
    • 1 cup unsalted butter, soft at room temperature (cut into small cubes)
    • 2 cups of powdered sugar (or more if you want it to be a thicker consistency).

Now let's make our Sweet Taffy Frosting!:

    1. Place a medium-size saucepan over medium-low heat.
    2. Add your taffy pieces and heavy cream into your pan and stir continuously until smooth, remove from heat. (If it starts to bubble, lower the heat just a little bit.)
    3. In a medium bowl combine your powdered sugar with your butter cubes and mix on low until you have a sticky, frosting-like consistency.
    4. Add your melted taffy into the bowel and continue to mix until all of the colors have mixed in. *This is where you will continue to add more powdered sugar if you wish to make it thicker, but add a little at a time, a little goes a long way!

That's it! Now you can decorate it!

*Since these cookies are so soft we put the frosting in a baggie and cut off a corner so we could pipe it on, then spread it around with a knife or spatula to keep from crumbling the tops.
